The Durbar is a festival that is celebrated in several states in Northern Nigeria. In pre-colonial Nigeria, a series of Northern states were ruled by a traditional ruler known as the Emir. To displays the Emir's political and army strength, the nobility of each Emirates were required to contribute their fighting forces to take part in the annual Durbar festival.
