Teach Children In Brazil About African Culture & History
Brazil has the biggest black African diaspora outside of Africa. Now, when it comes to children’s media there is very little reflection of this fact. As we are based in Nigeria we didn’t really have any idea just how bad the situation was. That is until we were approached by several English speaking Brazilian fans of Bino & Fino asking if there was a Portuguese version of the show.
We have always wanted to eventually have the Bino and Fino show dubbed into many different languages both African and non-African. The more languages, the more children around the world get to learn about African history and culture through the show. But as is usually the case, certain things take time and money. You can’t always do everything you want to and have to prioritise. But as more requests for a Brazilian Portuguese version of Bino and Fino came in we started to seriously discuss the possibilities of moving it up our list of priorities.
You see, Brazil isn't just any country. It has the largest African descendant population outside of the continent of Africa. It is even more than that of the US. It has deep historical roots to the continent. However this crucial link isn't being shown or taught to the children of Brazil in the majority of the content they read or watch. African history and culture is not being represented in their children’s media let alone people of African descent. Many Brazilians have taken the lead and are working very hard to change this situation and we would love to help out.
